Rebranding ESG for Carlsberg Group

Carlsberg Group has refreshed its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme to guide its sustainability journey for years ahead. Brewing Tomorrow was launched following the Group’s second largest acquisition and reflects its evolving portfolio and global footprint.

Carlsberg partnered with WMH&I to redefine the programme’s name, identity and communication. We positioned ESG as an active, evolving platform embedded within the Carlsberg brand. Fit for the future and grounded in science.

This began with naming. Brewing Tomorrow connects directly to Carlsberg’s purpose — Brewing for a Better Today and Tomorrow — while introducing a sense of motion, responsibility and long-term intent. “Brewing” signals transformation; “Tomorrow” signals commitment.

We also introduced a more intuitive programme structure, with updated targets across four clear pillars. The shift from nouns to verbs was deliberate. Moving the narrative from static commitments to an actionable roadmap.

Designing for Clarity and Momentum

With Brewing Tomorrow embedded in the company’s strategy, the identity needed to feel unmistakably Carlsberg, not a bolt-on, but an extension of the corporate brand.

We developed a dynamic identity system inspired by the iconic Carlsberg logo swoosh, evolving it into a wave device that expresses momentum and collective progress. This sits at the heart of a flexible framework, supported by a refined colour palette aligned to each pillar, human-centred photography, and simplified content structures that bring clarity to complex information.

The system was designed to scale globally and to ensure consistency while remaining adaptable across markets and business units.

Beyond naming and identity, WMH&I worked closely with Carlsberg teams to develop a comprehensive suite of assets and applications to bring the programme to life. Crucially, the system was designed not just for reporting, but for real-world use across investor communications, internal engagement, customer touchpoints and digital platforms. Brewing Tomorrow was launched globally on 5th March 2026, supported by internal and external rollouts.

The programme represents a shift in how ESG is expressed. Focusing on forward momentum, long-term commitment even in the face of challenges, and leaning of existing achievements as a roadmap for future success.
